Although it is difficult to leave a job, we must bear in mind that almost all people have ever had to give up or change jobs in their lives. Here are 13 tips on how to leave a job on good terms.

1. Design a strategy

First, you must program what your last day of work will be. It is recommended that you leave your departure two to three weeks in advance and leave enough time in case you have to train your replacement.

2. Prepare what you are going to say

It is necessary that you think in advance what you are going to say at the moment of meeting with your boss and giving him the news of your departure. Explain that you received a job offer from another company and that you can not lose this chance. Express your appreciation for the opportunities that the company has given you. Inform about your last day of work and offer your help for the transition process.

3. Write a letter of resignation

An example of a simple resignation could be:

I hereby inform you of my resignation from the [position] I have held since [date] in [name of company]. This decision responds to a new job opportunity.

You can also bring an introduction, to thank you and to farewell.

4. Give the news in the correct order

Your boss must be the first person to know your decision, and you must communicate it to them in a personal way.

5. Meet with your boss to convey the news

Define the time and date to meet personally with your boss and give him the news in the best possible way. There is no script for this step. It is important that you do not feel guilty for the decision made and go ahead with your position.

6. Wait for people to react differently

Some colleagues will be happy for your choice and personal or professional growth and others will regret your decision.

7. Save your personal things during free hours

It is advisable that you pack your personal belongings and things that you have inside the company without bothering your coworkers, it will be better if you do it during free hours or outside working hours.

8. Show you happy for the change, but not excessively happy

Think about the others. Do not constantly reiterate to your co-workers that you have left to better paid job or an interesting business project, since they will continue working in the current company.

9. Continue working the days that you have left in the company

It will be good to continue attending the meetings and doing all the activities of your working day. In addition, it will be important that you share your knowledge or the tasks you perform for a correct transition of your responsibilities to colleagues in the area or to the person who enters in your place.

10. Prepare a transition document

It is important that during the last days of work in the company you are as useful as possible and details of the projects in which you were working with descriptions and sufficient explanations so that your colleagues can continue with your tasks. Also, if you have a specialized knowledge or a unique responsibility to your charge, it will be good to assemble a document with the necessary instructions, which will serve as a guide to transmit to the person who assumes your functions.

11. Send emails with information or to introduce people who have not worked together

Write a message to the most important customers of the company to inform them about your departure and the date of the last day of work, as well as the people who will continue working together and who will be responsible for your tasks.

12. Express your appreciation

No matter what the reasons for your resignation, it will always be good and positive for the time worked in the company, the generosity of the colleagues, the confidence transmitted, the tasks learned and the achievements obtained. It can be by email or through a meeting; and if your team wants to make you a farewell, accept the idea and enjoy it. The important thing will be to be grateful to leave a good image of you.

13. Stay in touch

Currently there are many contact ways by which they can remain united with colleagues, either through LinkedIn, email or other social networks.
