10 Major Changes President Uhuru Enforced In New Police Service Look

On Thursday of 13th September 2018, President Uhuru Kenyatta made major changes in Police Service including unveiling of new uniform

”The uniform will enhance better visibility for the officers,” said President Uhuru during the show case of the uniforms at the Kenya School of Government.

Below are some of the major changes of the new looking police force.

1. Integration of police service to reduce duplicate and overlap during duties

“In order to eliminate waste, duplication, and overlap, we will integrate 39,680 police service and 24,572 administration police into general duty police offers under the command of Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police Service, leaving a total of 64, 252 police service general duty police given the unified command to offer better security for Kenyans,” said President Uhuru.

2.Mandatory refresher course for all police

“Institute a refresher training for all new general duty officer to instill a common understanding of police station work and to build a feeling of pride and mutual loyalty symbolised by a joint pass out parade,” he said

3.Re-organization

Interior CS Fred Matiangí was also ordered to create a smooth reportage of fuction in order to avoid duplicate submissions. He was to do it by re-organising National Police Service command structure in conformity with the National Police Act of 2011.

3.Specific functions to IG and DCI

CS Matiangí and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett should give specific orders and clear duties to the Deputy Inspector General of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)

4.Treasury to Facilitate Funding of police new changes

President Uhuru also ordered the Treasury led by CS Henry Rotich to ensure smooth operations of new regulations

5.New roles assigned to police bosses

The Deputy Inspector General will now work on ensuring public safety and security while DCI will specialise in criminal investigations

6.Some posts were wiped out and totally removed from police service

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that some of the major posts were removed from the system. They include positions of

  1. Administration Police regional commander,
  2. Kenya police regional commander,
  3. DCI regional commander
  4. District administrations police commander.

7,More posts destroyed under President Uhuru’s watch.

Police previous posts such as one mention here would be null and void . They include

  1. The County coordinating commander,
  2. Kenya police county commander,
  3. AP county commander,
  4. DCI county commander,
  5. AP sub county commander,
  6. DCI sub county commander
  7. AP service ward commander

8.Junior and prison police given housing allowances

“The policy of mandatory and free housing for junior officers in institutional houses is hereby abolished. Instead, house allowance will be provided. All police officers in police lines will be required to enter into private tenancies with property owners. They shall vacate within 90 days of the new allowance,” ordered President Uhuru.

9.Renaming of major police institutions.

The president also gave names to existing institutions

  1. General Service Training school to National Police College Embakasi B campus
  2. Senior Staff College renamed National Police Service Senior Staff College Loresho campus
  3. Administration Police Training College to National Police College Embakasi A campus
  4.  Kenya Police Training College changes to National Police College Kiganjo campus.

10.New police uniform look

New police uniform, looking ‘shouting’ as compared to the normal dull ones.
