And hundreds of millions of workers have been left without jobs in one of the most unpredictable global economic movements in recent decades.

Many of them will join the ranks of the unemployed when this situation ends and their company has either closed or it has not been able to recover all the workers it had before the confinement caused by the covid-19 began.

Those millions of people are now competing for the few jobs that are available as, as the number of open businesses has declined, so has the job offer. But there is no need to despair: there are still possibilities of finding work and those who dream of a new job can get it in the short or medium term.

Find hiring companies

First advice to job seekers is to identify which companies are currently looking for staff.

The job search should start with the companies that are first emerging from the de-escalation: private security, consumer services, hospitality and tourism. The human resources executive acknowledges that companies that need office staff have not yet taken the step to hire large-scale staff, but that does not mean that there are no possibilities.

Despite the black horizon that is being experienced, the executive shares three tips for finding employment. The first is to review each person’s skills and what they can contribute to the future company as an employee: this will help to define the job search, but also to find jobs both with previous experience and in other sectors with which have not been familiar before . By broadening the horizons of the types of industries in which you could work we will find what skills could be transferred.

The second tip is to personalize the resume and cover letter and adapt them to the offer for which we are applying. Candidate screening systems are able to recognize the keywords that should appear in those documents, so it is very important to read well what the company needs and explain why we are the right person to do that job.

Go online

Third, the use of the internet is vital. Although confinement has kept us locked up for weeks, the truth is that the network allows us to be fully connected. Connecting with former colleagues and colleagues by profession can help us find that dream job by communicating to a more or less numerous group that we are actively seeking employment.

Patience

Last, being very patient at this time. Although she is aware of the need of many people, she also knows the market and knows that troubled times are not good for job hunting. So the best thing to do is to dig deeper, send more personalized resumes, and not despair – keep trying.
