Throughout the time that society has organized itself as we know it today, some scientists have managed to stand out, leaving their names registered in history.

To get to know the scientific universe better, meet 5 brilliant scientists of the 20th century:

1 – Mary Curie

One of the few women who stayed in history in the field of science, Mary Curie was responsible, together with her husband Pierre Cury, for the discovery of the chemical elements polonium and radium. Because of hER achievements, She received two Nobel prizes and still left a very important legacy for Medicine, the X-ray.

2 – Sigmund Freud An

Austrian psychoanalyst, Freud was essential for the development of theories about dream psychoanalysis.

Even though there are thinkers who do not believe in Freud’s theories, he was nevertheless essential in making the human mind come to be seen and studied in another way.

3 – Albert Einstein

One of the most famous scientists in human history, Einstein left an incredible legacy on the study of relativity. In addition, the scientist spent his whole life trying to understand the world around him, devising theories that were explanatory about different phenomena and establishing fundamental parameters for modern physics.

4 – Niels Bohr

The work of this scientist was based on the structure of chemical atoms. In 1922, I received a Nobel Prize in Physics for his main discovery. Through studies, Bohr understood that the electrons of atoms were housed outside their nucleus, organized in energetic orbitals.

5 – Jonas Salk Salk

Salk’s most striking achievement was the creation of a vaccine that fights polio. At the time the vaccine was created, in the 1950s, the disease was very common and caused several deaths. One of the people who died of polio was President of the United States Franklin Roosevelt.
