Your parents say: “Choose something that will help you have a good life, such as Entrepreneurship, Medicine or Engineering.”
Your artistic cousin says “Choose something more chic and interesting like Photography or Fine Arts”.
After all, which way to go? Opt for financial stability? Following a passion even if there is no job market?
You are not the only one to be undecided. US statistics show that about a third of high school students do not know which course they want to take.
Here are the 6 ideas for a future career:
1- Study Entrepreneurship – and you will learn how to better organize ANY business
It is always useful to have a degree in Entrepreneurship, even if you are passionate about art, music, IT or engineering, as you will learn how to start and run any company. If something fails or goes wrong, you have the ability to start over.
2- Computer engineering studies – everyone needs an IT person
As there is no industry that does not use digital tools, starting with a bachelor’s or bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering is one of the smart choices you can make. You can specialize in almost any other field, including Engineering, Statistics, Art or even Archeology, which use increasingly graphic models and software to analyze data.
3- Study Languages - and become the link between people
The language is another field of study with which you cannot go wrong. The more interconnected we are, the more companies move from country to country, the more language skills become highly appreciated. And we’re not just talking about English, which is like a lingua franca around the world. This is only for beginners.
If you want to take a degree in Languages as a basis for other careers, go for other languages that are like Chinese, Russian, Nordic or Arabic.
4- Study Natural Sciences – a good start for any scientific career
You have an almost natural curiosity in laboratory experiments, you like to look at life through the microscope, and understand the numbers well. But you can’t identify the exact career you want to have. Should you be a doctor, an atomic scientist or a researcher?
Why not just take a course on the subject you like most now and decide later on what career you should pursue? For example, be it Biology or Chemistry, you can always choose to study in Medicine after your diploma.
Likewise, the study of mathematics can be useful in numerous fields of work, from teaching to business, to economics. So, do not stress and choose the discipline of Natural Sciences with which you feel more confident now.
5- Study General Engineering – and you will learn to explore your passion for assembling and disassembling things
If you already know that you are interested in Engineering, but do not know what type of Engineering – electrical, mechanical, automotive, you can choose a general training. During the three-year course you have time to discover which branch of engineering interests you most to proceed to the master’s degree.
6- Study Medicine – helps save lives
People will always need doctors because medicine never goes out of style. Although a degree in Medicine requires your commitment for at least 5 to 6 years, it is worth it in the end. You will be able to employ yourself in the state, as well as in private hospitals and clinics.
In addition to Human Medicine, you should know that some increasingly attractive disciplines are Nutrition & Dietetics and Physiotherapy. The growing demand for nutritionists and physiotherapists is closely linked to the increase in the obesity rate among the population and to the growing posture problems that people who work in offices have.
