On 4th in August this year, two bodies of a couple were found in Kiambu town in what later became a suspected murder and suicide .
The body of 42-year-old businessman in spare parts Jonathan Mukundi Gachunga was found alongside that of his wife Philomena Njeri, 30 hours after the incident had happened.
The motive behind the shooting was not established, however close friends suspected cheating in marriage
Jonathan was a legal gun holder operating a spare part shop in Nairobi’s Industrial Area. His wife worked at the same place.
He is said to have shot his wife three times before turning gun on self .
The remains of their bodies were found locked inside their bedroom
Contradicting details about the cause of death
Close pals indicated that Jonathan learned that Njeri had a five months pregnancy and he was not the father of the kid, leading to the deadly encounter.
“He has two children and an ex-wife who live outside the country, so he did not want any more children but Njeri wanted children very much,” neighbour Joseph Kamau said.
A close friend of the couple confirmed Mukundi has two children and a wife in Belgium. He also said that Njeri was pregnant but it was through in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
“The two met at a club sometime back and when Njeri couldn’t get pregnant, they went the IVF way,” he said, asking not to be named.
Secrete Lover
A close friend of the tycoon revealed that trouble started after Mukundi discovered his wife, Philomena Njeri had an affair with one of her workers at a spare parts shop she ran in Mlolongo area.
“Mukundi had opened the shop for his wife who secretly opened another shop for her secret lover in the same area,” he said.
