Tension was high for the better part of Wednesday in Kampala Uganda after main opposition leader Kizza Besigye dramatically swore himself in as president of Uganda.
“I Kizza Besigye swear in the name of God…..” he started, declaring himself as People’s President and a rightful leader.
The opposition leader was however, arrested after the “swearing in ceremony” and is still being held by police.
His action came a day before Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni swearing in ceremony.
Besigye has been opposing the outcome of Uganda February elections claiming that the process was compromised and was not fair.
Kizza Besigye who had earlier on evaded police block and got into the city for the his ceremony has been under house arrest since February.
Yoweri Museveni, the incumbent , is expected to be sworn in today for his fifth term as the country’s President. The function will be held today 12th Thursday 2016 at the Kololo grounds where fifty heads of states have been invited.
Uganda media report that social media plartforms in the country have been blocked ahead of the ceremony.
