Lt Gen Franklin Mghalu, the Vice Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces (VCDF) today 8th February 2021, officially launched the 2021 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) nationwide recruitment drive.

The exercise which commenced today and which ends on 19th February 2021, aims to recruit over 4,400 Kenyans into the KDF.

Speaking as he launched the exercise at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, the VCDF said the nationwide recruitment drive shall take place in all 327 gazetted sub-counties across the 47 counties in the next two weeks.

The drive shall seek eligible Kenyans in six categories namely

  1. General Service Officer (GSO) cadets,
  2. GSO Cadets Undergraduate,
  3. Specialist Officer cadets,
  4. General Duty (GD) Recruits
  5. Tradesmen/Women
  6. KDF Constables.

“The KDF recruitment exercise is necessitated by the need to address shortfalls and increasing demand for specialized skills consistent with the technological advancement within the Force.

Additionally, it is warranted by a steady increase in the number of KDF establishments, national requirements and natural attribution,” said Lt Gen Mghalu.

He, however, warned Kenyans to beware of conmen/women masquerading as KDF staff receiving bribes and issuing fraudulent calling letters.

The VCDF confirmed that 106 cases of recruitment malpractices were reported in 2019 where 101 cases involved civilians and 5 involved service personnel.

The civilians were arraigned in different courts while the KDF staff faced internal disciplinary actions as per KDF Act 2012.

Lt Gen Mghalu encouraged the public to report any misdeeds or interference with the process to the recruitment teams on the ground or the nearest local police station.

Complaints can also be reported at the Defence Headquarters via hotline number 0726 419 709.

The exercise shall be supervised by the Chief Recruiting Officer, Brigadier Peter Muteti.
