On October 21, 2024, Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah addressed rumors about his potential candidacy for the Interior Cabinet Secretary position, currently held by Kithure Kindiki. Speaking in Rabai constituency, Ichung’wah firmly denied that he was seeking to replace Kindiki, emphasizing his commitment to his role as a lawmaker and the responsibilities entrusted to him by his constituents.

Ichung’wah stated, “I have a job that I was given by Kikuyu constituents and these MPs also gave me a task in the National Assembly. I want to continue with this job so that we can bring development in Rabai and other parts of the country.” His remarks came in response to suggestions from fellow politicians regarding his suitability for the prestigious cabinet role, particularly following Kindiki’s appointment as Deputy President.

The National Assembly Majority Leader described the speculation as a deliberate attempt to create confusion among the public. He reiterated his focus on fulfilling his duties and working toward the development of his constituency rather than pursuing a ministerial position.

Ichung’wah’s comments also included a defense against accusations related to his involvement in the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, clarifying that his actions were not motivated by a desire for a cabinet position.

As the political landscape in Kenya continues to evolve, Ichung’wah’s commitment to his current role reflects a broader trend among politicians who prioritize local representation and accountability over high-profile government appointments.
