A fake notice claiming that Ezekiel Mutua, the CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), had been suspended, circulated widely on social media. Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi shared the fabricated document on X (formerly Twitter), alleging legal battles as the reason for the supposed suspension. Mutua has since clarified the rumors, dismissing them as unfounded gossip and affirming that he remains in office.

The Circulating Fake Notice

The notice alleged that Mutua had been relieved of his duties with immediate effect. It claimed, “This is to inform the public, our stakeholders, and esteemed members that Ezekiel Mutua has been suspended and is not allowed to conduct business on behalf of MCSK.”

Nyakundi further suggested that MCSK’s board had taken over due to prolonged legal challenges.

Mutua’s Response

Mutua, known for his outspoken nature, quickly addressed the allegations, describing them as “mere gossip.” He shared that he had been inundated with calls from concerned stakeholders and members of the public.

“Kenyans really love gossip and drama. I had one of my busiest weekends and didn’t get time to respond to the propaganda circulating online,” Mutua wrote.

He expressed shock at how quickly the false information had spread, despite the fact that MCSK’s board had already issued a statement refuting the claims.

Setting the Record Straight

Mutua firmly denied the suspension rumors, stating, “Let me set the record straight: I am in office and have neither been sacked nor suspended. The bloggers spreading these lies should come to the office and see me working.”

He emphasized that he remains committed to serving Kenyan artists and fulfilling his mandate as MCSK CEO.

Addressing Other Issues

Mutua also used the opportunity to criticize the trending Mapangale dance style, which has been flagged for allegedly promoting violent imagery. He urged Kenyans to stop endorsing such trends while investigations into their implications continue.

Ezekiel Mutua remains at the helm of MCSK, undeterred by baseless rumors. This incident underscores the importance of verifying information before sharing it on social media platforms, especially when it involves public figures and organizations.
