Many were quick to criticize the controversial preacher for his harsh treatment of a vulnerable congregant.
Milka Moraa, a single mother of two, had visited Ng’ang’a’s church seeking help to pay her rent and school fees, totaling KSh 13,000. However, instead of offering assistance, Ng’ang’a turned her away, leading to her public humiliation. The video quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread condemnation.
One of the most vocal critics was police officer Sammy Ondimu, known for his compassionate work. He was instrumental in helping Moraa secure a waitress job at Expressway Lounge and has been a strong advocate for the power of kindness. Ondimu expressed his disappointment with the pastor’s actions, calling for compassion from those in positions of power. “Preachers should embrace and help all congregants, especially those in need,” Ondimu stated. “The church is supposed to be a place of refuge, not one where people are turned away or humiliated.”
In addition to Ondimu’s support, Kenyans rallied together to raise KSh 450,000 for Moraa, helping her pay her rent and cover her children’s school fees. The community’s generosity highlighted the power of solidarity in times of hardship.
Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer, also criticized Ng’ang’a’s actions, stating that true pastors should inspire hope and offer compassion to their followers. “A true prophet would never shame someone in a vulnerable position,” Mosiria said. “Instead of exploiting people’s misfortunes for attention, pastors should uplift and encourage them.”
Despite the humiliating experience, Moraa expressed gratitude, thanking Pastor Ng’ang’a for unintentionally bringing attention to her plight. “Thank you for directing me to where I could find help,” she told TUKO.co.ke. With the support she has received, Moraa has now managed to purchase a house and is looking forward to rebuilding her life.
