Kenyan gospel rapper Eko Dydda has remained a force to reckon with in the country’s music industry, standing tall as one of the few artistes of his generation still dominating the charts. Known for his unique lyrical style and bold declarations of faith, Dydda has consistently used his platform to inspire change, and now he’s setting his sights even higher—political leadership.

In an exclusive conversation, Eko Dydda expressed optimism about the future of gospel music in Africa, declaring that a spiritual and creative rebirth is on the horizon. He believes the genre, often overlooked in the mainstream, is poised for a resurgence that will echo across the continent and beyond.

A New Dawn for Gospel Music

“People are searching for hope,” Dydda said. “The world is hungry for music that speaks life and truth. I believe gospel music is about to rise again—not just in Kenya, but globally. And it’s our duty as artistes to stay rooted in purpose.”

Despite the changing musical trends, Eko Dydda has managed to stay relevant without compromising his message. From hits like Niko na Reason to Vidole, his music continues to resonate with both younger audiences and seasoned fans. His bold fashion sense, signature stammer-flow rap style, and unwavering Christian message have kept him ahead of the curve in a genre often accused of losing its identity.

Venturing into Politics with Purpose

Beyond the studio and stage, Eko Dydda has made headlines for his entry into politics—a move he says is guided by the same faith that fuels his music. He believes true transformation must go beyond the microphone and into the systems that govern daily life.

“I got into politics because I want to be part of the solution,” he stated. “We cannot keep complaining about leadership and expect things to change. The youth need representation, and who better to speak for them than one of their own?”

In 2022, he made his debut run for political office, contesting for the Mathare parliamentary seat. Although he did not clinch the position, the experience strengthened his resolve to continue advocating for justice, good governance, and youth empowerment.

Balancing Music and Leadership

Eko Dydda is quick to clarify that his political ambitions do not signal a departure from music. In fact, he sees both as interconnected platforms for influence. “Music is my calling. Politics is an extension of that calling. I’m not leaving music; I’m expanding my reach.”

He also revealed that he’s working on a new album, one that he hopes will speak prophetically into the season the world is entering. “It’s not just about entertainment anymore—it’s about impact,” he said.

Championing Change for the Next Generation

As a husband, father, and public figure, Eko Dydda continues to be a role model for many. He’s vocal about mental health, social justice, and spiritual growth. His message to upcoming artistes is clear: stay grounded, stay authentic, and stay faithful.

“There is pressure to conform,” he admitted. “But when you know who you are in God, you don’t need validation from the world.”

With more projects in the pipeline, including mentorship programs for young musicians and community outreach initiatives, Eko Dydda is not slowing down any time soon. Whether behind the mic or at the policy table, he is determined to make a difference.

Eko Dydda’s journey from the streets of Nairobi to national stardom, and now to the corridors of political power, is a testament to resilience, purpose, and unshakeable faith. As he continues to chart his course, one thing remains certain—he is not just making music, he’s making history.
