Popular media personality Oga Obinna has spoken out against swirling online rumours suggesting he fled the country following the mysterious death of Father John Maina Ndegwa. The speculation, which was triggered by a viral Facebook post, linked Obinna’s departure from Kenya to his recent explosive interview with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to the post, Obinna was allegedly seen at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) shortly after news of the priest’s death broke, implying he was trying to escape potential fallout. The post claimed a connection between his interview with Gachagua and the tragic demise of Father Maina, who was found lifeless weeks after hosting the deputy president during a church function in Nyahururu.

Father Maina, who served as the parish priest of Igwamiti Catholic Parish, was abducted and fatally injured with a blunt object before being abandoned in Kikopey, Nakuru County. He died while undergoing emergency treatment at St. Joseph Hospital. His final sermon was widely circulated, as he urged political leaders to serve with humility and integrity.

Obinna, whose interview with Gachagua had sparked widespread debate—particularly for its controversial claims about President William Ruto weeping for support—quickly shut down the rumours. “Surely. I have not done anything. I have not wronged anyone,” he responded in a calm but firm post, distancing himself from the tragedy.

Supporters and fans rallied to his defense in the comments section, offering both reassurance and humour. Some encouraged him to stay safe and keep his security detail, Munez, close. Others took a lighthearted approach, joking about the Subaru drivers allegedly “fueling up” in search of suspects.

Adding another twist to the story, Obinna also reminded the public of his role in crafting the famous “wheelbarrow campaign” associated with President Ruto’s 2021 political branding. He claimed to have collaborated with fellow creative Anto Neosoul on the concept but lamented that he was never compensated or acknowledged. He cited Dennis Itumbi and Theuri as key witnesses to the behind-the-scenes work that helped shape the campaign’s visual identity.

While the situation around Father Maina’s death remains under investigation, Obinna continues to assert his innocence and maintain a public presence, even amid heightened attention. His vocal and transparent approach may help dispel the rumours, but the incident has raised questions about how easily online speculation can spiral in the age of viral misinformation.
