Nairobi-based comedian Justine Wanda will headline this year’s Shoko Comedy Night, set to run from September 25 to 27 in Harare and Chitungwiza. Known for her satirical show “Fake Woke With Justine,” Wanda blends humour with critical insight, tackling topics from election misinformation to macroeconomics through observational satire and dark comedy.
Wanda has toured extensively across Africa, performing in South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Uganda. Her presence at Shoko Comedy Night brings a continental perspective, offering audiences a fresh lens on social and political issues. She has contributed as a writer to The Fareed Khimani Show, Buni Media’s XYZ, and Zimbabwe’s Magamba TV, further cementing her role as a key voice in African comedy.
Joining Wanda is award-winning Zimbabwean comedian King Kandoro, who returns to the local stage after an acclaimed international tour. Festival Director Samm Farai Monro, known as Comrade Fatso, highlighted Wanda’s role in the festival. “Her comedy challenges audiences while keeping them laughing. Having her at Shoko underscores the festival’s commitment to showcasing talent that pushes boundaries and reflects diverse African experiences,” he said.
The 15th edition of Shoko Comedy Night, themed “The Legacy XV,” celebrates 15 years of promoting free expression, alternative art, and urban culture in Zimbabwe. Wanda’s headline performance embodies this legacy, combining sharp social commentary with engaging entertainment for audiences across the country.
This year’s festival promises three days of performances that highlight Africa’s comedy talent, with Justine Wanda at the forefront, shaping the conversation while delivering laughter.
