Comedian Njugush has joined Kenyans in remembering the late reggae hype woman Mary Njambi Koikai on the second anniversary of her passing. Njambi, widely known as Fayah Mummah, died in June 2024 after complications linked to Stage IV Endometriosis. Her death at the age of 38 left a major impact on Kenya’s entertainment scene and health advocacy space. Many fans, colleagues, and public figures continue to honour her life every year through messages, events, and online tributes. Njugush’s message added to a growing wave of remembrance that has kept her legacy alive. The anniversary has once again highlighted both her influence in entertainment and her powerful voice in women’s health advocacy.

Njambi Koikai built a strong reputation as a vibrant reggae hype woman and MC who brought energy to major concerts and entertainment events across Kenya. She became a familiar face in the nightlife and reggae culture, earning respect for her stage presence and ability to connect with audiences. Beyond entertainment, she became an outspoken advocate for women suffering from endometriosis after sharing her personal health struggles publicly. Her journey with illness began at age 13 when she experienced severe menstrual pain, but diagnosis came many years later due to limited specialised healthcare. The delay in diagnosis contributed to the worsening of her condition, which eventually affected multiple organs including her lungs and reproductive system. Her story exposed major gaps in awareness and treatment of endometriosis in Kenya and beyond.

Medical reports and her own interviews revealed that Njambi suffered from Thoracic Endometriosis, a rare condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows around the lungs. Over time, the disease spread beyond the pelvic region and affected areas such as the diaphragm, bowel, spine, appendix, and other organs. She underwent numerous medical procedures during her treatment journey, including more than 20 surgeries in different countries such as the United States. Despite her health challenges, she remained active in raising awareness and educating women about early symptoms and the importance of seeking medical attention. Her openness encouraged many women to speak about their own struggles with reproductive health. She became a symbol of resilience and advocacy in a space where such conversations were often ignored.

On the second anniversary of her death, social media platforms were filled with messages celebrating her life, contribution, and courage. Among the public figures who shared tributes was comedian Timothy Kimani, popularly known as Njugush, who posted a photo of Njambi Koikai with a short emotional message wishing her continued rest in peace. His tribute reflected the continued respect she commands in Kenya’s entertainment and creative industry. Many fans also shared memories of her performances at concerts and her advocacy work, describing her as fearless and inspirational. Visits to her gravesite at Lang’ata Cemetery have also continued over the years as people pay personal respects. The annual remembrance shows how deeply she connected with audiences beyond her public performances.

Njambi Koikai’s legacy continues to influence conversations around healthcare access, particularly for women dealing with endometriosis in Kenya. Her story pushed awareness about the need for early diagnosis, specialised care, and improved medical support systems. It also highlighted how long many patients suffer before receiving proper treatment due to lack of information and resources. Njugush’s tribute adds to the ongoing recognition of her impact on both entertainment and health advocacy. As Kenyans mark two years since her passing, her influence remains visible in public discussions and continued advocacy efforts. Her memory stands as a reminder of resilience, awareness, and the importance of speaking openly about health challenges.
