The company has issued a statement warning Kenyans not to make any payments for the call centre interview.

“Safaricom never requests anyone to send money for interviews,” clarified the statement signed by Stephen Chege, Director, Corporate Affairs.

“We have launched investigations into the matter and are working with the police on this. The M-PESA PayBill number involved in this issue has been suspended,” adds the statement.

The mobile operator says all vacancies are listed on the career portal where all job applications must go through.

Safaricom has embarked on a decentralization strategy which will see more jobs created or moved to Safaricom regional headquarters based in Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri and Kisumu.
