A debate consisting Nairobi County’s aspiring Governors on national television almost turned physical on Wednesday night, after Bishop Margaret Wanjiru aimed what appeared to be a slap on her opponent Miguna Miguna.

The incident occurred during the 90 minute Jeff Koinange Live show on KTN.

What was supposed to provide a platform for the aspirants descended into a shouting match, leaving the show host – popular journalist Jeff Koinange  – with a difficult time moderating the debate.

Present at the debate were four aspirants, Wanjiru, Miguna, Phillip Kisia and Esther Passaris.

NO SHOW

Mr Koinange repeatedly noted during the program that invites had been sent to all Nairobi gubernatorial aspirants but a majority of them, including the incumbent Dr Evans Kidero, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko Mbuvi, Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, and former Speaker of the National Assembly Kenneth Marende declined to participate.

The tiff between Wanjiru and Miguna started as soon as the show began, with the veteran female politician seemingly agitated by Miguna’s continuous assertions to the effect that most of his opponents were “thieves and crooks.”

In the end, Margaret lost her cool, and her actions left the normally abrasive Miguna stating “Why should a Bishop slap me? She slapped me Jeff…”

And Bishop Margaret who is the former Starehe MP maintained she will sue Miguna over remarks made during the show.

During the show, the aspirants also shared their manifesto, while accusing each other of several improprieties they allegedly committed during their respective tenures in public office
