Victor Wanyama is a Kenyan international football player. He currently plays as defensive midfielder for English club Southampton. He is also the Kenya national football team captain. Born and raised in Nairobi,he attended Kamkunji High School,an institution that nurtured his football talent.

10. He comes from a sporting family. His father Noah Wanyama was a renown footballer who played for AFC leopards in 1980s. His brother McDonald Mariga plays for Parma FC, while his other brothers Thomas and Sylvester plays in the Kenyan Premier League. His sister is an international basket baller based in United States.

9. He is the first Kenyan to play in the English Premier League. He was signed for Southampton from Celtic in 2013 at a cost of 12.5 million starling pounds.

8. He is an actor. He is the staring actor in the short film of ‘Lion of Muthurwa’. This is an inspirational film on his football journey from slums to international football stadiums.

7.During his moments at Celtic FC, he influenced Celtic Charity Fund, a charitable arm of Celtic FC to visit Kenya. The charity is committed to supporting famine relief effects in Africa.

6. Wanyama is planning to build a modern stadium in Busia. According to reports by goal.com, he has liaised with Busia governor Hon Sospita Ojamong on possibility of getting a piece of land for the construction. Wanyama hails from Busia County.

5. His breakthrough to football came when he was admitted to JMJ Academy and City Stars. This was after high school. JMJ taught him professional football while City Stars nurtured his talents.

4. This season has been one of his worst seasons in professional football. He was banned from playing five matches after receiving three red cards in a season.

3. In 2015, he donated games skits worth sh. 700,000 to AFC leopards. This was to boost the club at a time it was experiencing financial crisis.

2. He is the first Kenyan to score at UEFA Champions League. He scored against Barcelona in 2012 during 2-1 Celtic win over Barcelona.
