Please tell us about yourself, who is Fiona Konchellah?
I am a simple, hardworking, God fearing, ambitious and highly intelligent young lady.
Growing up in Kenya, how would you describe your childhood?
I had an incredible childhood. I was raised in the coastal region of Kenya, Mombasa. I was very competitive as a child, i think i still am. And became a professional swimmer at a very young age.
Being from a large family, 1st born of six, i have always been very responsible and portrayed leadership skills from a very young age.
Professionally you are a finance controller, what drew you to modelling?
I studied Finance, though it is something I love to do, Marketing has been my strong suit and the current position I hold is in Marketing. However, I continue to do alot of Charity work with The Masai Mara Marathon which is a family owned initiative aimed at ‘Run so the Children can learn’
When did you get your first break?
I was lucky enough not to struggle in the modelling industry as my first shot at it, i won. I do not take it for granted as I am well aware of the fact that alot of young girls struggle before they make it in this industry. I really do believe that if you work hard at something and put your mind to it, sooner or later you shall reap rewards.
Growing up who did you look up to?
I have grown up around a powerful and strong woman, my mother. I have emulated her a lot and this has done me well.
Being crowned Miss Kenya 2009, what where some of the life changing things that happened to you as a result of this win?
I travelled the world at a very young age and the opportunities that came with it. I was able to meet and greet with a number of influential people who have played an important part in my life to this day.

You recently were crowned Miss Earth Kenya 2012, how is that different from the Miss Kenya crown?
I had the privilege of being singled out by the Franchise owner of Miss Earth Kenya to participate in the global pageant. It was an incredible experience and I am ever so fascinated by meeting new delegates from all across the world and learning about their diverse cultures and backgrounds.
What are your responsibilities as Miss Earth Kenya?
The key responsibility as a Miss Earth Kenya is in the conservation initiatives that we have to be extremely passionate about and play a role in preservation, sustainability and restoration of the environment.
How can we raise awareness around environmental issues in Africa?
The best way to raise awareness is through educating people all across Africa about the importance of conserving our natural resources.
What is the one thing you would like to change or improve about Africa today?
I strongly believe that for effective change it all begins with the little things, the day to day activity should
You have been in a number of pageants including the Miss World, what has been your most memorable moment?
Interacting and making new friends who I am still in very close contact with.
What characteristic does one need to have to be a role model Miss?
Passionate, Philanthropic, Intelligent and of course a well toned physique.
How do you feel about the controversy of the size 0 debate in the modelling industry?
I strongly advocate for models to be healthy. It is okay to have a fantastic body but a persons health is always more important.
What book have you read that has shaped your line of thought or attitude about life in a huge way?
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.
What beauty tips do you swear by?
Lots of Water, 2 litres of water daily.
What is your guilty pleasures food wise?
Cake and Chocolate.
If a young girl/boy wanted to be a model what would your advice for them be?
It is very important to start young, join an agency where couching is available as early experience in this industry is always an added advantage.
What are you currently doing?
I am currently the CEO/Founder of Ellah by Fiona Konchellah which is a Kenyan clothing franchise. I also work at Mtech Communications Ltd as a Marketing Executive. Further to this I manage the annual Masai Mara Marathon that is sponsored by Kenya Airways.
