In 2018 KCPE results, Education CS Amina Mohammed announced that the top position was a tied of two students in an exercise which took three days marking.
The results were announced from Mombasa town at Star of the Sea Primary School.

- First two candidates tied at position one with 453 marks out of possible 500
- The exam was taken by 527,294 boys and 525,070 girls making a total of 1,052,364 candidates
- Male candidates performed better in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Religious Studies
- Female candidates performed better than boys in English, Kiswahili and Kenya sign language
- A total of 12,273 scored more than 400 marks making an increase of 1.17 per cent increase from the 9,846 in 2017
- More than 50% of the pupils scored more than 250 marks in 2018
- A total of 2,177 pupils scored less than 100 marks, indicating a drop as compared to 2017
- Special needs candidates totaling to 2,495 had the highest student scoring 446 marks, in 2017 the best scored 426 marks and were 2038
- About 574,927 scored Between 201- 300 marks,, 101-200 marks for 234,573
- There was zero exam leakage during the 9 paper exam exercise
- About 23 out of 47 counties registered more female candidates. They included Kakamega, Nairobi, Meru, Bungoma, Vihiga, Siaya , Kitui, Embu, Makueni, Machakos, Nakuru, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kisii, Nyamira, Tharaka-Nithi, Kericho, Uasin-Gishu, Kirinyaga , Trans-Nzoia, Nandi, Mombasa and Bomet
