Considering the large number of CVs that recruiters receive each time they make a call, it is important that you spend some time to develop it, and above all, that you focus on communicating your skills and try to differentiate yourself from others.
-
Attach a cover letter
This may be the most important, and also most underrated, aspect of developing a curriculum vitae. In fact, it has been proven that curriculums that include a cover letter are more likely to be noticed by recruiters.
Now, how to elaborate one? First of all, you should give thanks and provide a summary of your experience and skills. In addition to this, you can briefly talk about why you think you are the right person to get the job offered and include your contact information.
-
Make sure it’s attractive to look at
Considering that the curriculum will be the first contact that the recruiter will have with you, it is important that you make an effort to make a good impression and develop a visually attractive curriculum.
Make sure it is symmetrical and spaced and use capital letters, bold letters, italics and bullets. Finally, do not forget to check the writing and the spelling.
-
Order it chronologically
Your curriculum vitae should contain the information organized as follows: at the top of the first page, your name, address, contact numbers and email.
Then, to list of your jobs in reverse chronological order, including the position, name of the company, city, and number of years you worked there.
Finally, mention the details of your educational degrees in descending order and include a summary.
-
Highlight your strengths and de-emphasize your weaknesses
Regarding your abilities, try to highlight them and choose the right words to pretend professionalism and instill confidence.
For example, mention your experience, your ability to manage projects, negotiation, teamwork and leadership. I added clear and strong statements of achievements and quantified them whenever possible. On the other hand, refrain from repeating too many personal pronouns and words such as “need”, “opportunity” and “difficult”.
-
Be concise and focused
In addition to presenting a reduced number of pages, it is important that you take care of preparing to summarize that maintains the attention of the recruiter. I included phrases as short and to the point as possible, refrain from using numerous examples, when one may suffice, or add unnecessary details.
