Timothy Otieno Celebrates Sportpesa Player Award At A Cost – Posta Rangers FC hit man was a disappointed man when he could not make a cut to the side of the Harambee ‘Stress’ which lost to Guinea Bissau. Due to his current best form and ability, the mailmen’s playmaker was among the top wish list to play for the lowly national team on back to back.

Luckily enough, the on loan from Gor Mahia player had something to smile after being February and 2016 season’s first SportPesa/SJAK Footballer of The Month Award winner.

He also cashed in Ksh100,000 (USD986.73) prize after organizers doubled the award from Ksh50,000 (USD493.36).

The 22 year-old striker later hauled away a 42-inch smart television from South Korean electronics giants LG Electronics with the finalists he beat to the accolade receiving Ksh50,000 in the revamped prize structure.

The mailman who has his eyes now set on the 2016 Golden boot, tallied 26 points in the vote conducted by the SJAK panel to narrowly beat AFC Leopard’s Andrew Tololwa and Muhoroni Youth’s Wycliffe Ochomo who garnered 25 each while Mathare United’s on loan striker, Obadiah Ndege was fourth on 22.

“This award is testimony to my improvement and I want to keep working hard to be the absolute best. It is an honour to be recognised for my efforts on the pitch. It will spur me further and encourage other players within the team to strive for excellence,” Otieno, the former JMJ Academy and FC Talanta player said when receiving the award on Tuesday.

“I get enough play time at Posta so I know I have to justify my time on the pitch. My confidence has strengthened since joining this club and I hope to do better in the coming matches,” he added.
