The famous Bachelors of Education degree which has been in system for more than 47 years is set to be abolished and replaced with a better alternative.
Education CS Prof. George Magoha’s purge is still taking place even after he proposed hundreds of college and university courses to be deleted from the system.
In place of the B.Ed degree, will be a new system where a five-year rigorous teacher training programme will be rolled out.
KCSE graduates who will have qualified for university admission will do a degree in either science or arts, then proceed with a one year post graduate diploma in teaching programme.
Thereafter they would be awarded with their Teachers Service Commission numbers from TTC.
Just like the way advocates are trained, varsity graduates will go through
Kenya School of Education to offer final exams and certification to trainees joining the teaching profession.
The policy has received massive support from Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association, Kenya National Union of Teachers and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers.
