10 Things You Don’t Know About Emmy Kosgei

The 36 years old Emmy Kosgei was born in Kelewa village in Mogotio, Koibatek District in Baringo County. She is one of the celebrated gospel songbirds in Kenya. Some of her popular songs just to mention a few, includes Taunet nelel, O’lolo, Kongoi Baba, Ategisin Jehova and Ongeurereu. She sings using the local native language of the Kalenjin but the unique angle she gives her music has attracted the global audience.

Here are some facts you need to know a bout Kosgei.

10. She was born and brought up in a strong Christian family. Her father is Bishop Jackson Kosgei while her mother Rose Kosgei is a strong Christian believer.

9. Those who inspired her to music includes the late Miriam Makeba, Esther Wahome, Rebeca Malope and her parents.

8. She was awarded the head of state commendation award (HSC) in 2010 during the promulgation of Kenyan constitution.

7. She is a philanthropist. She pays school fees for around 37 students who study at her Hope Acadamy.

6. She is married to a Nigerian evangelist Anselm Madubuko.

5. She won the best international gospel Act award in 2013, which was awarded in  the United Kingdom.

4. She is a step mother to Sandra and Velma Madubuko, the children of the late Madubuko’s wife.

3. She runs Emmy K. House of Fashion and Lebel. She makes her classic design from the venture.

2. Her style of music is richly African, with melodious instrumentals. This has made her music to attract wide audience even though she uses vernacular Kalenjin.

1. She met Apostle Madubuko in 2010, at a conference. She performed at that conference that coincidentally was attended by the  apostle.
