Socialite Amber Ray and comedian Oga Obinna are at the centre of an ongoing public controversy after Amber exposed private chats showing Obinna allegedly trying to arrange a questionable meeting between her and a wealthy friend. The situation has reignited conversations about personal boundaries and respect in the entertainment industry, while also coinciding with a separate viral moment involving Evangelist Lucy Ngunjiri challenging Bishop Muthee Kiengei to marry his wife in a church wedding — a scene that similarly highlighted issues of public expectations and private decisions.
Amber Ray recently shared screenshots of her 2022 private messages with Oga Obinna on Instagram. In the chats, Obinna proposed that Amber meet a rich friend of his who had seen her photo on his status and expressed interest. “Hey.. I have a message for you. A rich friend of mine wants to have a coffee with you. He is a private guy…” Obinna wrote. Amber immediately rejected the offer, stating, “I don’t do that.” When Obinna pushed further, claiming it could be a business opportunity involving government contracts, Amber firmly responded that any such meeting should go through her manager.
Obinna’s persistence continued, with a follow-up message: “Usiwe mgumu unifungie baraka.” He also appeared to simp in Amber’s DMs later on, writing, “Chipo me then ghost me abeg. Or you are scared you might fall in love or get addicted?” Amber ignored the message.
Commenting on the incident, Amber said, “These chats between me and Obinna speak volumes. They expose a mindset where a man can try to pimp you out in one breath, then tell you how good you look together in the next. It’s deeply disrespectful.” She admitted that her failure to set strong boundaries contributed to the situation but added, “My daughter will learn that kindness is not weakness. Boundaries are a form of self-respect.”
Obinna responded by claiming that Amber only shared part of their exchange to sway public opinion. “That’s like three years ago. The person that I was three years ago is not the person I am now… She has even shared part of the receipts to drive a conversation in a certain direction.” He also revealed that he chose not to release his own receipts out of respect for Amber’s current partner, Kennedy Rapudo.
Meanwhile, another church-related conversation recently stirred online debate. During an event hosted by Evangelist Lucy Ngunjiri, the popular preacher publicly urged Bishop Muthee Kiengei to officially marry his wife, Reverend Joy Benson, in a white church wedding. “Please organise a white wedding in church and marry this girl so that we can come and celebrate you,” Lucy said during the event.
Though Bishop Kiengei acknowledged her words with humour, he tactfully shifted the focus back to Lucy, saying, “Amen, amen. We came here today to honour you.” His wife, Joy, smiled warmly throughout the exchange, but the moment quickly went viral. Many online users questioned why Kiengei, a prominent church leader, had yet to hold a formal wedding ceremony for Joy.
Adding to the curiosity, church members noticed that Joy had been absent from services in recent weeks, with Kiengei often arriving alone. However, she later returned to the church alongside her husband, who openly expressed his affection for her before the congregation.
Both of these incidents — Amber Ray’s clash with Obinna and Lucy Ngunjiri’s challenge to Bishop Kiengei — reflect a growing trend where public figures are being called out to uphold clear values in their personal and professional relationships. As these conversations unfold, they continue to spark wider debates about respect, accountability, and authenticity in Kenya’s celebrity and religious circles.
