Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU-K) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has began preparation for Kenya’s next general election.
The flamboyant and outspoken trade union self confessed polygamist, told the Nairobian paper that he had already set a side 500 million but he intends to top it up to 10 billion through a fundraiser.
Mr. Atwoli said that people had already started supporting him immediately he shared his idea. He further clarified that the Luhya community will support a single candidate who will succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta.
He maintained that leaders who will not be able to contribute to the targeted 10 billion will not be supported.
“We will decide who among the three and any other person who will show interest in the seat, to support. But first, we must raise Sh10 billion for the campaign,” he said.
The embattled husband of three wives also added that the suitable Luhya candidate will be fielded during the Bukhungu 2021 declaration pact.
“All candidates from Western Kenya eyeing the presidency will undergo vigorous vetting, we will conduct an opinion poll to get the most popular candidate and even subject them to a nomination exercise,” Atwoli stated.
Top Luhya leaders Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Wyclife Oparanya are expected to be top contenders to fly the Western block flag
