The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is a premier and flagship non-governmental human rights and governance institution in Africa that was founded in 1992 with a mandate of enhancing human rights centred governance at all levels. Its founders and staff are among the foremost leaders and activists in struggles for human rights and democratic reforms in Kenya and beyond.
The KHRC conducts and provides evidence-based research and analysis on human rights in Kenya, advocates for the full realization of all rights and works with community-based networks across the country to help them organize and mobilize for the attainment of these rights.
The KHRC now seeks young talented graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the field of Human Rights. The successful interns will be spread across our programme and institutional support areas for a period of six (6) months after which the candidates will be released to pursue opportunities in the job market.
Internship Objective
The objective of the KHRC internship programme is to give an opportunity for young talented and committed individuals to gain useful exposure, knowledge and skills in the field of human rights. The programs also aim to provide participants with an opportunity to gain work-place experience, expand knowledge, refine career goals and build professional networks, mentors and contacts within the field of human rights.
Basic Requirements
- A first degree from a recognized university in any of the following disciplines: Economics, Finance, Communication, Statistics, Management, Social Sciences, Law, Political Science, Environmental Management or related disciplines or a Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Be a Kenyan youth between 21 to 29 years of age;
- Must have graduated within the last 48 months from the closing date of the advertisements and/or awaiting graduation
- Applicants must provide a recommendations/reference letter from the university attended; and
- Should not have undertaken any other internship programme or exposed to work-place experience related to their area of study since graduating

- Should possess interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be goal oriented, dynamic, passionate and self-motivated
- Must be a team player and have the ability to solve problems;
- A person of integrity
- Must be computer proficient

State Reconstruction; Trade and Labour Justice/ Land and Resource Governance; Legal Affairs; Communication and Transitional Justice.

Applicants are requested to note the following important information:
- The internship program will ONLY run for six (6) months, after completion of the program, KHRC will not be in a position to offer employment
- Successful applicants will be required to complete the six months program without a break so as to fully benefit from the objectives of the internship. This is not negotiable.
- Incomplete applications failing to meet the above criteria will not be considered
