By April 24, in 2023 the total number of dead bodies recovered from the scenes of a deadly cultic church in Shakhola in Kilifi County was more than 47.
As authorities continued with the search, it was pretty clear as police learned that they were dealing with a massacre rather than death caused by worshippers fasting.
It was believed that some worshippers were killed before being buried in mass graves.
