In USA Missouri, a 10-year-old boy survived after falling from a tree in his home on a skewer of meat.
The metal needle entered his face and came out above his neck, piercing his head.
Miraculously, Xavier Cunningham’s bad luck was not yet.
The skewer did not pass through the eyes of the minor, the spinal cord or any blood vessel, The Kansas City Star reported.
“It could not have been an optimal situation,” said Koji Ebersole, director of endovascular neurosurgery at the University Hospital of Kansas, after examining the wound.
One in a million of these cases happens 13 or 15 centimeters (5 or 6 inches) by the face until the back part (of the head) and does not touch these things “, added.
Xavier’s tragedy began on Saturday afternoon when he was attacked by insects known as yellowjackets while he was on a tree house at his home in Harrisonville, about 56 kilometers (35 miles) south of Kansas City.
He fell to the ground and her mother, Gabrielle Miller, ran down the stairs when she heard her screams.
The skewer had pierced his head and about 15 centimeters (half a foot) of the stake protruding from his face.
“I’m going to die, mom,” the boy told his mother, who took him to the hospital.
The minor was later transferred to the University Hospital of Kansas.
He did not have an active spill, which allowed time for the hospital to gather the staff and operate it on Sunday morning.
The operation was complicated because the skewer was not cylindrical but cubic and had to come out very straight to avoid the edges doing more damage.
“Miraculous” would be an appropriate word to describe what happened to him, Ebersole said.
The doctors believe that Xavier will recover fully.
I have not seen anything that has gone through such a depth and that it is possible to survive in that situation, much less a situation in which we believe that the recovery will be almost complete or total, “the doctor added.
