Businesswoman Sarah Mtalii has opened up about her struggles in her marriage with Simon Kabu, which lasted over 10 years, and is now channeling her energy into supporting women seeking employment. The mother of two recently shared opportunities for women in Kenya to secure jobs abroad, especially in the beauty industry, through her Virtuous Women Foundation.
In a video shared on her TikTok page, Mtalii explained that recruiters from Dubai and Saudi Arabia will be visiting to hire qualified candidates. She emphasized that the initiative also includes training for women who may not yet meet all qualifications, giving them a better chance to secure employment overseas.
“This January, and you know this is when mass recruitment happens, we have an urgent need. We have people coming from Dubai and Saudi Arabia, and they will be coming to recruit beauty technicians. Beauticians are in demand in the Gulf. And the salary there is around KSh 65,000 and you get accommodation. You are paid overtime, and you get tips. So in a month you cannot miss KSh 100,000,” she explained.
Sarah encouraged women earning about KSh 30,000 per month in Kenya to consider working abroad for a year or two. She advised them to save aggressively during this period and return to Kenya to open their own businesses, such as salons, rather than relying on loans. “We need to move from tears to fending for ourselves. I told you the secret is in loving yourself, believing in yourself and working hard,” she added.
In addition to beauty technicians, the program also offers positions for waitresses, electricians, and house managers. Mtalii reassured women that training will be provided for those who need it, making the initiative accessible to a wider group of job seekers.
Through this effort, Sarah Mtalii is creating pathways for Kenyan women to gain financial independence, practical skills, and international work experience, helping them transform their careers and secure a more stable future.
