The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch a probe into the death of gospel singer Betty Bayo. The order follows concerns raised by her mother, Joyce Wairimu, who has questioned the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s passing.

Bayo, a rising gospel artist, reportedly died on November 10, 2025, from excessive bleeding. According to Wairimu, her daughter had shown no prior signs of illness, raising suspicions about the cause of death. In a formal letter to the DPP, she claimed that the family was denied access to vital medical information, including Bayo’s medical records and the results of an autopsy, as well as explanations regarding her treatment prior to her death.

Wairimu also alleged that Bayo’s burial was conducted hastily, suggesting that this was done to conceal key details about the circumstances leading to her death. The concerns prompted the DPP to take swift action, instructing the DCI to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a comprehensive report within seven days.

The DPP’s directive underscores the importance of accountability in cases where questions arise about medical treatment and unexplained deaths. It also highlights the legal mechanisms available for families seeking clarity and justice when the circumstances surrounding a loved one’s death appear suspicious.

The investigation will likely include interviews with medical personnel involved in Bayo’s care, review of hospital records, and examination of the events leading up to her passing. Authorities have committed to providing a full report to ensure transparency and address the concerns raised by Bayo’s family.

This case has drawn public attention, reflecting broader calls for diligence and transparency in handling deaths where medical treatment or sudden health deterioration is involved. The outcome of the DCI investigation will be closely monitored by both the family and the public.
