Are you looking for an opportunity in the hotel industry? How about a job at one of the second largest fast food hamburger chain in the world? Yes, American fast food chain Burger King is set to open a Nairobi outlet at The Hub Mall in Karen.
According to the business daily, the firm is making final touches on the store. Burger King’s arrival in the Kenyan market comes more than three years after opening its first Africa joint in South Africa in 2013.
Burger King Restaurant Expected To Provide Employment Opportunities
So if the restaurant opens in Nairobi, it means more employment opportunities for those seeking hotel related jobs.
The article reveals that “Nairobi outlet, once operational, is expected to provide employment opportunities to tens of Kenyans.”
The Burger King brand is owned by Restaurant Brands International (RBI) Inc, which has been operational for more than 60 years. It is also known as the Home of the Whopper, a signature hamburger sold at its outlets spread across 100 countries.
“Kenya has been a strong market for the Burger King brand. We do not have any further information to provide on our restaurant at this time, but please refer to our website for any future announcements from the brand,” said a Burger King media relations official.
Career point interviewed several job seekers and here are their views on the issue.
“This is good news and I am looking forward to applying for it. I think it is a wonderful experience to work in a fast food restaurant where you get to serve hundreds of people daily,” says Josh Mureithi, a high school leaver who is currently unemployed.
“As a hospitality job seeker, I am looking for this opportunity once the positions will be advertised,” says Pauline Maingi, a Hotel waiter in a local restaurant.
While this comes as good news to many, some believe that they will be locked out of such opportunities.
“We have long heard cases of new restaurants opening then they decide to bring along their own staff,” says Caleb Nyandiko. “It doesn’t hurt to try but I don’t think the recruitment process will be fair,” he concludes.
“If that is the case, the restaurant should go ahead and advertise the available positions,” agrees Beth Mumo, a Cashier in a local Supermarket.
According to her, this will only ensure that the hiring process is fair and transparent. Interested in a hotel job, this cover letter will guide you.
