Comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi began his ambitious 486-kilometre walk from Nairobi to Mombasa on January 10 to raise funds for his charity, Team Sisi kwa Sisi. The initiative aims to support a Help and Rescue Centre, which will include a clinic, secondary school, warehouse, and ambulances, while continuing the foundation’s work assisting grieving families and victims of police brutality. Eric started the trek from Nyayo Stadium, covering 63 kilometres on the first day and reaching Machakos. However, injuries to his leg and hip slowed his progress, forcing him to seek medical attention while maintaining his commitment to the mission. He encouraged Kenyans to contribute financially, emphasizing the importance of completing the walk for the charity’s objectives.

On February 11, radio presenter Alex Mwakideu checked in with Eric live on air, where he admitted the journey was tougher than anticipated. At 43, Eric acknowledged the physical strain but remained determined to reach his goal, walking approximately 70 kilometres that day before resting in Makindu. He revealed a change in plans, noting that he would not walk the full 486 kilometres due to safety concerns. “There are places that I won’t walk. Like, for instance, Man Eaters, where there is wildlife,” Eric explained, adding that the Kenya Wildlife Service restricts access to certain areas. He confirmed that he would cover around 370 kilometres over four days, adapting his route to maintain safety while continuing the charity drive.

Social media users rallied behind Eric, praising his dedication and promising to cheer him along the way. His transparency about the challenges faced during the walk has resonated with supporters, highlighting the balance between ambition and practicality in charitable initiatives. Eric’s adjusted plan demonstrates resilience and strategic thinking while keeping the focus on the cause. The walk continues to generate public interest, raising awareness for Team Sisi kwa Sisi and inspiring contributions to support the foundation’s ongoing projects. Eric Omondi’s journey showcases how high-profile personalities can leverage visibility and personal effort to make a meaningful social impact.
