Renowned Kenyan comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi has spoken candidly about the deep pain he continues to carry following the death of his younger brother, Fred Omondi. Fred died in a tragic road accident on June 15, 2024, along Kang’undo Road in Nairobi, a loss that shook both the Omondi family and the nation.
In a recent interview, Eric admitted that he has not healed from Fred’s death. He said he often chooses to ignore the pain as a way of coping. According to the comedian, the loss of his younger brother affected him more deeply than any other tragedy he has faced.
Eric revealed that he has experienced multiple losses in his family over the years. He lost his mother in 2002, his father in 2004, and later his older brother in 2016. While those deaths caused immense pain, he explained that he eventually found the strength to move forward. Fred’s passing, however, left a wound that remains open.
He shared that Fred’s death hit hardest because of their close bond. The two grew up together and later moved to Nairobi, where they hustled side by side in pursuit of better lives. They shared dreams, struggles, and daily experiences, which made their connection unique and deeply personal.
Eric said their shared journey is what makes letting go so difficult. He believes that growing up together and building their lives at the same time created a bond that cannot be replaced. He added that even members of his family acknowledge that this pain may never fully leave him.
Fred Omondi’s death sparked an outpouring of grief across the country, with many Kenyans paying tribute to his life and expressing sympathy to Eric and his family. Despite the public support, Eric admitted that healing remains a personal battle he is still fighting.
The comedian’s openness offers a rare glimpse into the emotional struggles behind his public persona. His story highlights the lasting impact of loss and the reality that some grief does not fade with time, especially when the bond was built through shared life and shared struggle.
