Renowned comedian Eric Omondi has pledged to help veteran Benga musician Atommy Sifa revive his music career. Sifa, once a celebrated Luo artist, has faced significant challenges, including losing his band equipment and retreating to his village in Kendu Bay to engage in small-scale farming. In 2023, financial struggles forced him to appeal for help online, attracting both public support and harsh criticism.
Through his initiative, Sisi Kwa Sisi, Eric Omondi identifies individuals facing hardships and rallies fans to offer assistance. He recently revealed plans to help Atommy Sifa host live shows in Kisumu and Nairobi. “We want to push him (Atommy Sifa), elevate him and take him to Nairobi and Kisumu, so he can do his first-ever live show in Nairobi as a one-man,” Eric said in a video shared on TikTok.
Fans have reacted positively to Eric’s plans. Nelson Mandela wrote, “Atommy Sifa is so dedicated, Luo celebs should promote him by at least holding shows at his Rock City Resort!” while Alpha commented, “Atommy is past the prime,” and Robert Ouko Junior added, “I respect Atommy.. Big up, Eric.”
Atommy Sifa’s career has had a turbulent path. He started as a street dancer in Homa Bay before gaining fame as a musician. However, losing his band equipment and financial setbacks forced him back to village life, where he turned to farming to support his family. His online appeals in 2023 brought temporary relief, including donations from public figures like Ida Odinga and Interior PS Raymond Omollo, but they did not resolve his long-term financial difficulties.
Eric Omondi’s intervention offers a potential turning point for Atommy Sifa, aiming to restore his presence in Kenya’s music scene and give him the platform to perform live shows for the first time in major cities. Fans remain hopeful that this initiative will mark a new chapter in the veteran musician’s career.
