A teenager from Kisii County has been sentenced to 10 years in jail after he was found guilty of defiling a minor.
The student allegedly committed the crime two years ago when he was 16 years old.An 18-year-old secondary school student has been handed a 10-year jail term by a Kisii court after he was found guilty of defiling a one-and-a-half-year-old minor.
George Morara was accused that on June 19, 2014 when he was aged 16, he unlawfully used his fingers to defile the baby girl in Nyachenge location, Kisii County. The prosecutor, Cecilia Mosomi, said that Morara took the child from her grandmother claiming that he was going to buy her sweets, according to HiviSasa.
Her parents told the court that the girl was brought back to them bleeding.A medical report presented in court before Kisii Resident Magistrate Paul Mutai confirmed that the baby had been defiled.
The suspect, who was unrepresented, denied the accusations, saying that the child’s family wanted to fix him following a fall out between him and the girl’s father over outstanding payment for work he (the student) had done for him.
The magistrate was unconvinced by the defense, ruling that Morara was guilty.“The prosecution has proved the case against the accused beyond reasonable doubt,” Mutai said, handing the student a 10-year jail term.
The teen pleaded for leniency, saying that he could not afford all those years in jail, as he was still studying. He was given 14 days to appeal the sentence.
