The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has made a significant decision by appointing Frida Boyani Mokaya as the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary. This appointment comes after a thorough selection process that included interviews conducted by the Commission on Monday, March 18. Mokaya emerged as the top candidate among seven applicants vying for the position, showcasing her outstanding qualifications and capabilities.
The JSC emphasized that Mokaya’s appointment was based on merit, performance, and suitability for the role, highlighting her five-year tenure in this crucial position. She takes over from Anne Amadi, whose term concluded earlier this year.
Mokaya boasts an impressive academic background, currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Law at the University of Nairobi. She obtained her Bachelor’s in Law from the same institution in 1993 and furthered her legal studies with a Post Graduate Diploma in Law at the prestigious Kenya School of Law.
Before assuming her new role, Mokaya served as the registrar of the Judicial Service Commission since 2012. Her extensive work experience includes roles as a District Magistrate, Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, and Principal Magistrate, demonstrating her deep understanding of the judicial system.
In her new capacity, Mokaya will undertake various responsibilities, including acting as the secretary to the JSC and the National Council on Administration of Justice. She will also serve as the Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary, overseeing crucial tasks such as budget preparation and management, human resources administration, and overall support services within the judicial system.
