Government Appoints Bob Collymore To State Job

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, a cancer survivor, has landed a lucrative government job.

Bob Collymore, together with Mercy Oburu (Royal Media Services head of digital content ) were appointed to be board members of the National Cancer Institute.

The news of their new jobs were made public by Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki in a Gazette notice dated May 6, 2019

Ms Oburu is also a cancer survivor warrior.

Other notable appointees were David Makumi, who heads the Kenya Cancer Network, and Dr Evelyne Njiru.

They are all set to serve for atleast three years

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 6 (2) of the Cancer Prevention and Control Act (2012), the Cabinet Secretary (Sicily Kariuki) appoints David Makumi, Mercy Oburu, Bob Collymore and Evangeline Njiru,” reads the Gazette notice.

About two years ago, Bob Collymore was forced into a 9 month sick leave as he sought specialized treatment for his ailment

Cancer Control Act established the National Institute of Cancer mandated to serve and coordinate cancer activities in Kenya.

The cancer body is the main adviser to Cabinet Secretary of Health on the overall priorities that should be accorded to cancer prevention and control in Kenya
