Agnes Tirop’s husband, Ibrahim Rotich was arrested in Mombasa by police why trying to flee following the death of his wife.
Rotich was arrested while trying to cross to neighboring Tanzania a day after Agnes was found stabbed to death at their home in Iten.
About Agnes Tirop
- At the time of her death, Tirop was only 25 years old
- She had recently won bronze medals in the 10,000m at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships and finished 4th in the 5,000m at the Tokyo Games.
- In September 2021, Tirop made history when she clicked in a time of 30:01, breaking the previous record of 30:29, women-only world record for 10km at the Adizero Road To Records event in Germany.
- At the 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, Tirop became the second-youngest ever gold medalist in the women’s race after Zola Budd.
