Viral Kakamega branded ‘twin’ sisters became an online sensation when they met on Facebook, in what looked like a joking encounter that later turned into a matter of public and government interest.

The girls with a striking resemblance all aged 19 years are believed to have been separated at birth in 1999.

It was until on 16th, April 2019 when Sharon Mathias and Melon Lutenyo, reunited in Likuyani, Kakamega County.

The two are currently KCSE candidates who are preparing for their final form four exams

Their mother Rosemary Onyango says she gave birth to twins in 1999 at the then Kakamega General Hospital.

After developing complications, one of the babies Mevis was taken apart to the nursery and she was left with Melon.

Sharon Mathias, according the family, was also delivered at the same hospital.

On their residence, Sharon’s family has been living in Nairobi’s Kangemi estate while Melon and Mevis stayed with their family in Kakamega

The two families are now awaiting for DNA tests

The attention of the @DCI_Kenya has been drawn to the highly publicized story of the #Kakamega twin puzzle. We believe forensic investigation will establish if any criminal act was committed or any mitigating circumstances that may have led to the present status.1/2 pic.twitter.com/B7NU72hry5
