Tragedy struck Kenyatta University on Monday, March 18, as several students are feared dead following a devastating accident involving their university bus. The incident, which occurred in Maungu, Voi, Taita Taveta County, involved a collision between the university bus and a loaded trailer, resulting in casualties and injuries among the students.

Eyewitness accounts and photos circulating online depict a harrowing scene where the Kenyatta University bus was rear-ended by the trailer, predominantly impacting students seated in the rear of the bus. Shocked bystanders rushed to aid the injured students while waiting for emergency services and the police to arrive at the scene.

Upon their arrival, the police and an emergency response team from the county swiftly took control of the situation, providing urgent medical care to the injured and arranging for the transportation of the deceased to local mortuaries. The aftermath of the collision left debris scattered on the ground, including seats from the bus and personal belongings of the students, exacerbated by the rainy weather conditions.

The accident caused a significant traffic buildup in the area as motorists paused in disbelief at the tragic scene. However, police efforts managed to redirect traffic flow and prevent further chaos on the road.

Bomet county accident

In a separate incident in Bomet County, another tragic accident involving a matatu and a tractor was reported along the Olonguroune-Silibwet Road. The collision resulted in multiple casualties, with fears of additional fatalities and severe injuries among the victims.

According to reports, the matatu driver’s failure to maintain lane discipline led to the accident, causing the vehicle to overturn on the busy road. Eyewitnesses at the scene provided immediate assistance to the injured individuals before medical personnel and law enforcement arrived to manage the situation.

The injured parties were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for specialized medical attention, while the deceased were respectfully taken to the morgue. These tragic incidents serve as stark reminders of the importance of road safety and the need for continued vigilance to prevent such accidents in the future.
