Reporting to the Director General, the overall responsibility will be to ensure effective and efficient management of corporate affairs and compliance with enabling legal matters and other relevant legislations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Advising the Board and management on all legal matters.
- Ensuring that the corporation complies with statutory and other regulatory requirements.
- Representing the Service in Court and arbitrations as may be required.
- Coordinating all litigations in liaison with the Attorney General’s Chambers, Government Ministries and external lawyers.
- Safeguarding the corporation’s interests.
- Drawing and processing legal notices and other gazettement that are issued under the requirements of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act.
- Preparing Board Business and maintaining proper records of Board’s proceedings.
- Keeping safe custody of Corporate Seal and security documents.
- Preparing and vetting of contracts and legal agreements.
- Coordinating the review of laws, by-laws and regulations relating to the Service.
- Supervising, appraising and ensuring appropriate training of staff in the Department.
- Performing any other duties that may be assigned by the Board and the Director General from time to time.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized institution
- Post Graduate degree in Law or its equivalent from a recognized institution
- Strategic leadership and senior management training from a recognized institution

- Land Officer I – Job Grade “5” -One (1) Post – Advert Ref: No. KWS/07/2020
Reporting to Senior Land Officer, the overall responsibility will be to follow up registration procedures and processes with national and county governments to ensure the Service legally secures its land ownership, access and use.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Processing applications for sub-division and amalgamation, change/extension of user and extension of lease.
- Assessing land (property) market value and market rental rates in liaison with the Ministry of Lands.
- Acquiring reservation/allotment letters in liaison with the National Land Commission.
- Preparing documents for gazettement and land registration.
- Circulating Standard Forms under the Land Acts and other relevant legislation for comments by respective offices.
- Following up payments for land rent and rates.
- Conducting title searches on land.
- Analyzing demand notes for land rent and rates from the County government and other Institutions for decision making.
- Collecting and verifying land ownership data to aid decision making.
- Attending Land Control Board meetings in liaison with Wardens.
- Preparing land rent change advices to relevant sections of the department on registration of new grants and transfers and preparing land reports.
- Conduct due diligence on land proposed for acquisition.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields; Land Economics, Land Administration, Land Survey, Social Sciences or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution

Reporting to Land Surveyor, the overall responsibility will be to carry out angular & distance measurements and computations, to generate maps & plans for registration of title and decision making purposes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducting topographical and physical surveys of sites, natural and man- made features for preparation of site plans and topographical maps for development purposes.
- Undertaking land survey activities and projects.
- Confirmation of boundaries and alignment.
- Carrying out field measurement, reduction computations and adjustment of traverse networks.
- Conducting traversing and tachometry.
- Conducting survey work from aerial photographs.
- Carrying out Cadastral survey for preparation of survey plans for purpose of titling.
- Identifying and establishing photo control points.
- Drafting survey notes and creating detailed drawings.
- Carrying out computations for setting out work, road curves, intersections and other measurements.
- Setting out computed coordinates on the ground and computation of areas.
- Providing survey data during feasibility studies and final designs.

- Testing the accuracy of surveying equipment.
- Application of specialized land surveying software and cad systems to draw plans.

- Assistant Physical Planner – Job Grade “5” – One (1) Post – Advert Ref: No. KWS/09/2020
Reporting to Physical Planner, the overall responsibility will be to prepare various physical and land use development plans for land reserved for wildlife conservation to promote its security of tenure and ensure best land use practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collecting planning data and picking site dimensions during field visits.
- Drafting plans during preparation of various physical and land use development plans KWS land and infrastructure facility development site planning.
- Organizing and printing of various physical and land use development plans prepared in favor of KWS land/property.
- Liaising with government ministries and offices in preparation of various land allocation physical and land use development plans and other planning purposes.
- Following up and collecting comments for completed physical and land use development plans from relevant County Physical Planning offices for onward transmission to the National Director General of Physical and Land Use Planning for final approval processing.
- Following up on procurement of base maps from government offices to facilitate preparation of various physical and land use development plans planning purposes.
- Organizing for acquisition of physical and land use development planning materials and tools.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor‘s degree in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent
- Membership to a Physical Planners professional body

- a) Molecular Biologist II (Sequencing) – Job Grade “6” – One (1) Post – Advert Ref: No. KWS/10/2020 (a)
Reporting to Molecular Biologist I, the overall responsibility will be to manage, maintain and perform sequencing assays at the Forensics Laboratory following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing pipelines and workflows to address optimization challenges, automating established analysis and supporting new assay development.
- Reviewing and providing guidance on inquiries about sequencing standards and services.
- Performing library preparation and QC for Sequencing.
- Be able to reproducibly follow established procedures as well as troubleshoot experiments as necessary to enable sequencing of evidence submitted to the forensic section.
- Performing all molecular biology work in pre-PCR and post-PCR lab.
- Developing, validating and applying new protocols and workflows to increase robustness, time efficiency and cost effectiveness of the sequencing lab.
- Establishing good sample tracking (LIMS) system and managing metadata information relevant to the samples/extracts/libraries.
- Reviewing and publishing sequencing lab SOPs to laboratory repository.
- Writing protocols and methods for datasets and scientific publications.
- Supporting science communication efforts including lab tours, conferences, and writing articles.

- BSc in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology
- Sanger Sequencing Certification is mandatory

b) Molecular Biologist II (Wet Lab Analyst) – Job Grade “6” – One (1) Post– Advert Ref: No. KWS/10/2020 (b)
Reporting to Molecular Biologist I,the overall responsibility will be to use DNA to carry out forensic identification of wildlife exhibit submitted by law enforcement officers, prepare and present forensic analysis reports which may be used for prosecution of wildlife crime and also responsible for the quality control and management of the wet lab.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identifying genetic forensic of wildlife exhibit submitted by law enforcement officers.
- Preparing of timely and accurate forensic analysis reports which may be used for prosecution in wildlife crime.
- Inputting work plans and budgets.
- Implementing the quality assurance program.
- Attending court cases to present forensic evidence and giving expert testimony.
- Implementing laboratory SOPS.
- Analyzing forensic exhibits submitted by law enforcement officers.
- Maintaining chemical inventory within the section as well as maintain MSDS binder.
- Disposing of any chemical/biological waste.
- Completing safety survey on a semi-annual basis.
- Insuring incident reports are completed and returned when an accident occurs.
- Providing safety orientation for new employees and manage the overall safety of the forensic laboratory section.

Reporting to the respective conservation area managers directly and indirectly to the Head Airwing through the Chief Pilot, the overall responsibility will be to conduct aerial works to facilitate wildlife management and decision making in the designated conservation areas and also build up flight management data through the pilot reporting system.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Flying aircrafts to ensure effective aerial patrols and conservation area administration
- Flying aircrafts for animal census exercise
- Participating in security operations
- Locating animals during translocation, veterinary and capture operations
- Ascertaining aircraft fitness for flight as per pilots operating handbook and any laid down operation and legal requirements for every flight
- Maintaining flight records
- Providing aerial coverage for wildlife security ground operations
- Locating animal concentration and advising the security team for easy monitoring and protection
- Conducting commercial flight in accordance with the industry and institution standards
Job Requirements
- Must be a Kenyan Citizen
- Minimum KCSE Grade “C” Minus or its equivalent
- Valid and current fixed-wing Kenyan Private Pilot’s License (PPL)
- Minimum total flying hours: forty (40)
- Be in possession of valid and current class one (1) medical certificate from a KCAA authorized medical examiner

Additional Skills
