On Sunday 28th January 2018 , dozens of Nairobi residents were left homeless after a section of Lang’ata area was razed down by a huge fire.
The Fire is believed to have started at 9pm from Kijiji area to the Southlands before it spread to other parts of the Lang’ata constituency.
Bty 10.30pm, almost 1 and half an hour later, no fire fighter engine had arrived at the scene, residents were seen fighting the fire either with bare hands or with crude weapons while others rushed to salvage their valuables.
The fire also enjoyed the presence of strong winds and gas cookers which exploded at intervals as it razed down more slum houses.
Langata OCPD Elijah Mwangi said that they had not established the immediate cause of fire.

October 2017 @UKenyatta and @MikeSonko paraded these fire engines. Today Southland Langata is burning without help from County Government. @Disembe @o_keverenge @ntvkenya pic.twitter.com/2fLZuUSxcN

All I know is I know someone who lives in Kijiji in Langata and they had been given notice that the land had been acquired by a prominent politician. Now there is a huge fire…🤔🤔

My heart bleeds for residents of Kijiji in Langata. I am currently away in Malawi for a strategic parliamentary workshop but will monitor the situation through my sectional coordinator who has already called on the relevant authorities for rapid disaster response.
