Citizen TV presenter Lillian Muli has publicly defended herself after a man posted false information about her on Facebook. The post, made by a user identified as Hon. Dancan Odhiambo, claimed Muli was desperate for a man and willing to provide for him, while fabricating details about her relationship history and alleged divorce.
The post suggested that Muli was looking for a “strong young man” and was ready to provide for him as long as he respected her. It went further to falsely claim she had previously stated she could not date broke men and was not suited for marriage. The fabricated content also alleged that her ex-husband, Kanene, divorced her due to her “not so good behaviors,” casting a negative light on her personal life.
Muli responded firmly, emphasizing that she usually avoids commenting on such allegations but felt compelled to address the situation. In an Instagram post, she called out Odhiambo, stating, “When we stay silent, such characters make it a habit to tarnish the names of people who have toiled for years to build their brands. Do not try me!”
She urged him to focus on hard work instead of spreading false information for social media attention. Muli encouraged Odhiambo to learn from successful digital writers who use their platforms constructively, warning that his behavior was unbecoming and damaging to his own reputation. She added, “Work hard so that you don’t have to spend valuable time trying to make small coins off people’s names. It’s not a good look.”
Muli concluded by expressing disbelief over the false accusations and warning Odhiambo to stop spreading rumors about people he does not know. “Any right-thinking person knows this is total rubbish that you have written here. Stop writing things about people you do not know or have never met in the name of clickbait. It’s pathetic. There! I’ve made you famous. I hope it helps you sleep better at night,” she wrote.
The response underscores Muli’s stance against online defamation and highlights her call for responsible use of social media. Her message serves as a reminder that public figures are often targeted with false narratives and that such actions can harm reputations built over years of work.
