Liverpool striker Divock Origi has had to change his training and playing kits after adding on 5kg following specialised training.

This was revealed by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in an interview with the English media.

After a slow start to life in England following a move from France last summer, Origi – who is son to former Kenya international Mike Okoth – has hit the ground running in the English Premier League, scoring twice in his last two matches.

“He wasn’t fit when I came in, then he suffered many small injuries. But now you can see he is coming through very well, he had had to change his kit because of the specialised training in the gym during his last injury. He needed to bulk up, you can see that is helping hip adjust to the physical state of the game in England,” Klopp said.

Club kits in England are normally supplied twice a season by a contracted kit manufacturer. The development with Origi thus implies he will have to get three orders this season.

Origi is now Klopp’s preferred striker ahead of the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Christian Benteke.
