Manchester United fans have reacted angrily to the omission of French forward Anthony Martial from the PFA Young Player of the Year award at the expense of Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

The nominees for both the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year were announced today, with players from league leaders Leicester City dominating the shortlists.

Despite scoring eight league goals since his summer move from Monaco, 20-year-old Martial missed out on both awards.

By comparison Liverpool’s Coutinho has netted just seven times in 21 appearances.

Here are some of the views.

Monty said- #PFA is a joke. How on earth is #Martial not nominated over Barkley and Coutinho?

Said another MUFC fan-Who’s atrocious decision is it to pick Coutinho over Martial in the PFA young player nominees?

Shock and horror. PL players rate Coutinho over Martialpic.twitter.com/NjeAnM1fBK

Coutinho so overrated.

How the hell is he on that list and Martial and Bellerin aren’t?
