Millicent Omanga, a well-known United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician, recently stirred discussions online after showcasing her new luxury SUV—a Bentley Bentayga—on social media. The announcement came with a note of gratitude as Omanga shared a video of herself driving the high-end vehicle and credited the acquisition to divine blessings. However, the extravagant purchase sparked questions among Kenyans about her source of funds.
Earlier this year, Omanga made headlines when she revealed that she had purchased a 2024 Range Rover, a move she described as her “biggest risk.” The SUV reportedly cost her KSh 60 million and featured luxurious amenities, including massage seats, which she highlighted as one of her favorite aspects.
Omanga’s latest purchase, a Bentley Bentayga, has a base price starting at KSh 26 million and can go up to KSh 33 million, depending on customizations and trim options. The British-made SUV is renowned for its craftsmanship, featuring premium leather interiors and real wood trim. It also offers advanced technology and driver-assistance features such as automated emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a night-vision system.
Omanga shared her gratitude on social media with a caption quoting scripture: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” While her post celebrated her new car, it also drew a wave of mixed reactions from the public.
Many Kenyans expressed skepticism about how the politician managed to afford such high-end vehicles. Christopher Osiga commented, “Leaders buy new high-end vehicles every month, while common people die in hospital because they lack medical attention.” Another user, Jeff Mahiuha, remarked, “No business or employment can buy you this. We all know how it was gotten.” Similar sentiments were echoed by Joakim Amo, who said, “Car is not coming from God, don’t drag God into this,” and Peter Musyoka, who added, “Funny how this God only gifts the rich and forgets the poorest.”
Amidst the critiques, there were some supporters like Winny Aty, who said, “Congratulations. Clapping for others till it’s my turn.”
Omanga’s penchant for luxury cars is not new. Her 2024 Range Rover drew significant attention earlier in the year when she shared the vehicle’s impressive price tag and described the acquisition as a testament to her bold decision-making.
As discussions continue over the source of Omanga’s wealth, public interest remains piqued over the opulent lifestyles of Kenyan political figures and the broader implications for ordinary citizens facing economic challenges. The juxtaposition of lavish displays of wealth with widespread economic struggles has sparked deeper debates about transparency and accountability in leadership.
The politician’s high-profile purchases serve as a reminder of the disparities in Kenyan society, where political leaders are often scrutinized for their spending in light of the economic hardships faced by many citizens.
