The Spanish authorities accused coach Jose Mourinho of tax evasion worth 3.3 million euros ($ 3.7 million), it was announced Tuesday.

In a statement, the prosecutor’s office in Madrid said that the Real Madrid ex coach committed tax fraud in 2011 and 2012.

It is now up to a judge to decide whether the prosecution has merit to go to trial.

The statement added that “after leaving his position as coach at Chelsea (England), Mourinho signed a work contract with Real Madrid on March 31, 2010 and moved his residence to Madrid, reason why he acquired the status of resident tax in Spain”.

He adds that “nevertheless, with a view to obtaining an illicit benefit, he submitted in time his statements for 2011 and 2012 without declaring his income from the assignment of his image rights.”

Mourinho currently leads Manchester United in the English Premier League. A week ago, the prosecution in Madrid accused Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid striker, of tax evasion in the amount of 14.7 million euros (16.5 million dollars). Ronaldo has rejected the accusation.
