There’s a lot of good to be said about Underground, 8 episodes in, and a lot of bad. The acting is a bit over the top, as is the plausibility of the romance plots.
But even with this knowledge ringing at the back of your mind, you will be drawn into this tale of Confederate America and slaves trying to find freedom.
You will side with them, you will become invested in the story in spite of its shortcomings and you will keep watching and rooting for these fictional people whose plight, a few hundred years ago, was very real.
The series stars Aldis Hodge, who you know from Leverage and Straight Outta Compton, Jurnee Smollet-Bell from Tyler Perry’s Temptation and Alano Miller, from the excellent Jane the Virgin. Watch that too, if you have the time between tension.
