Comedian and YouTuber Oga Obinna has finally spoken out after some Kenyans linked him to the death of musician Shalkido. The comedian, who was among those who had helped Shalkido during his difficult times, has suspended his acts of kindness following the controversy.
Shalkido’s death shocked many Kenyans, with tributes and condolences pouring in across social media. However, soon after news of his hospitalisation and passing surfaced, some online users began spreading unfounded claims suggesting that Obinna had a hand in the tragedy.
Initially, Obinna urged Kenyans to avoid negativity and respect the grieving process. But as the accusations grew louder, he decided to address the issue directly.
TikToker Prince Mwiti came to Obinna’s defense, calling out those spreading false narratives. “If you help someone, the next thing you hear is that you sacrificed them,” Mwiti said in a viral video. “People are saying Obinna’s car has number plate 666. Stop being hypocritical. You believe only the devil can bless people, what about God?”
Obinna reshared Mwiti’s video and expressed his frustration with the backlash. In his response, he wrote, “Nimejichuna maskio, nijikute tena. Wanadamu hawana shukrani. Saa hii kila mtu apambane tu. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I’d rather when I don’t.”
His message reflected disappointment and exhaustion after trying to do good, only to face criticism. The comedian said his past charitable acts were motivated by peace of mind, not publicity or gain.
Fans reacted with mixed emotions. Some encouraged him not to let public opinion change his kind nature. “You’ll always help because you’re kind and God gives you the grace,” one supporter commented. Others shared his frustration, agreeing that being kind often leads to misunderstanding and judgment.
Obinna had earlier excused himself from handling Shalkido’s fundraiser, citing personal reasons and the growing pressure surrounding the matter. Despite his withdrawal, many confirmed that he had supported Shalkido while he was alive and during his illness.
After Shalkido’s passing, messages surfaced showing the late musician’s communication with record label representatives and friends. They revealed that he had plans for new music projects and was in touch with several people who offered help, including Obinna.
A video also emerged showing Obinna’s reaction upon hearing the news of Shalkido’s death, capturing his visible shock and sadness.
Obinna’s recent statement marks a turning point in how he plans to engage with the public. By suspending his acts of kindness, he highlighted a growing challenge faced by celebrities who try to help others in an environment often clouded by suspicion and negativity.
While he remains one of Kenya’s most popular and outspoken entertainers, Obinna’s message is clear: doing good should never become a reason for condemnation.
